My Recommended Formula for Your LinkedIn EXPERIENCE Statement

Did you know that some of your LinkedIn profile visitors won't read your ABOUT statement, but instead they will SCROLL down to your EXPERIENCE section to learn more about you, your work experience, and your company.

So now that you know this, let's FIX your EXPERIENCE statement, using my recommended formula.

  • FIRST PARAGRAPH: describe your company. 1-2 sentences. HINT: copy/paste from the company page or website.

  • SECOND PARAGRAPH: Describe your role in 1-2 sentences. This is NOT your resume. Include your contact info. for your current role. This might include: website, email, and/or phone number. Keep in mind this is public. Make it easy for people to do business with you!

  • THIRD PARAGRAPH - OPTIONAL: additional information about your company: what might your ideal target audience want to know? Consider a bulleted list of your company's products / services. BONUS: use emojis for the bullets (I like the green checkmark!). I recommend short, skimmable paragraphs.

  • OPTIONAL: add up to 5 skills to your current role

  • OPTIONAL: Showcase website links, projects, team photos, etc. in MEDIA

You have 2,000 characters, and as an "opportunistic marketer," I always recommend maximizing your EXPERIENCE description for your current role, as the more keywords / phrases you use that could be used by your ideal target audience in searches, the more likely you'll be to have your profile come up in more searches.

By the way, I'm an experienced LinkedIn trainer / coach and I practice what I teach! See my EXPERIENCE statement on my LinkedIn profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brendameller/

Having an optimized profile -- including an optimized EXPERIENCE statement -- will help you to reach more of the RIGHT people, and possibly convert them to leads or prospects.
